Giving Back
In the year 1901, SigEp was founded on the ideals of virtue, diligence, and brotherly love; since then, using the three cardinal principles, the fraternity has strived to produce balanced men who better their communities through service. In the spirit of service SigEp hosts an annual Powderpuff football tournament, open to all sororities on campus, aptly named 1901 in the spirit of our founders.
If you’re going to give back to the community, why not have a little fun along the way? That’s exactly what 1901 is. Throughout the week, all of the sororities on campus participate in a skit competition, a sign hang, donate thousands of dollars in a penny jar competition, and go all out in a Powderpuff flag football tournament that is fun for everyone involved.
In 2007, SigEp donated over $8000 to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth. In the next two years we hope to donate over $20,000 so that we can help the hospital purchase a new incubator.
Powderpuff football is not the only service that SigEp participates in. Every year, our Sigma program participates in TCU’s campus wide community service project called LEAPS. Others donate their time at their favorite local programs, like the YMCA, Boys and Girls Clubs, and area food banks. All in all, last school year, SigEps did over 300 hours of community service.
